How to clean a dove, a Survival Podcast Video

18 Nov, 2009  |  Posted by nancyperez  |  under Podcasting (Audio)

This is some footage I shot in dove season and didn’t get to upload until today. I say it in the text in the video before it starts, I say it verbally before I begin and I will say it again here. This is a graphic video that shows how to clean doves, there is blood, guts and I even pull their hearts out (because hearts fried in butter and garlic are yummy), if you don’t want to see footage like this don’t watch it. Comments from cry babies and PETA types will be deleted….

    Jack! Luv your show! I learned something new but different from when I was a kid.
    Learned to clean Pigeon when I was 12 but nothing like what you did here. We would cut the head and rid all the feathers. Then, open up and clean out the guts, wash/rinse, season & cook! We would keep the wings along with everything else. I figured I’d do the same for dove but… Too much work?

    That was mean!! I did a chicken once when I was young, the experience was nothing like that though. Here in Hawaii we have a lot of small birds and not much else. I mean no squarles or rabbits, and on Oahu no dear. There is no hunting seasons and as such pigs are hard to come by. But birds are all over the place. Thanks for that I’m going to have to try it. Are there any diseases or other things that will mess me up that I should look out for eating doves and pidgeons?

    Had never seen that done. Great video! I’m almost 32 and just learned how to gut fish and learned last week how to fillet them. I have a lot of catching up to do. Thanks again for the video!

    well if the peta supporters want to get all bent out of shape remind them that chances are if there ancestors hadn’t utilized some hunting skills they would have starved and they wouldn’t be able to live off their trust fund and complain all the time.They also might be interested in the fact that their beloved peta put more animals down than all other “rescue” organization put together.oh that reminds me,i went deer hunting today and had a GREAT time!! mmmmm back straps!!!

    @basszack,

    I completely agree with you, my warning were only for the PETA types that seem to cruise youtube looking for something to cry about. Even with the warnings I have already had to delete 3 such comments.

    I guess i have been hunting and fishing to long,I kept waiting for the “graphic” part.This does seem like a quick way to do it. Your latest podcast on medicinal plants was very good! thanks for posting!

    @TheMudhole9
    The ribs stay with the back meat when cleaned this way.
    Doves have so little rib meat that its mostly not worth the effort, so by doing it this way you just end up with the breasts.

    Great vid……Does the removed breast section contain the ribs as well?
