Are Optical Drives Being Phased Out of Game Consoles

@mattdunner on Twitter asked, “Do you think optical drives will be absent on future game consoles?”

Thanks to direct download services, it appears the gaming industry is heading in that direction already. It’s possible that the next generation of consoles will be released without optical drives at all, relying on the users broadband connection to download games directly to a drive on the console itself.
