Sarah Palin on Sunday defended her charge against Barack Obama that he is “palling around with terrorists,” upping the ante in the latest go-around with the Democratic presidential candidate over his ties to questionable characters.
Obama, who has held a statistically significant lead against John McCain in more than a week of Gallup daily tracking polls, said Sunday he won’t be distracted by Republicans trying to tear him down.
Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, said it is legitimate to raise Obama’s association with William Ayers, a co-founder of the Weather Underground, a Vietnam-era domestic terror group.
Ayers and Obama are acquainted — Ayers is a neighbor of Obama’s in South Side Chicago and hosted a fundraiser for Obama at the beginning of his political career. But they never palled around, the Obama campaign insists.
But Palin said she mischaracterized nothing on Saturday when she referenced a New York Times article discussing Obama’s relationship with Ayers.
“Our opponent … is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough, that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country,” Palin told a group of donors in Englewood, Colo. “This is not a man who sees America like you and I see America,” she said.
“The comments are about an association that has been known but hasn’t been talked about,” Palin said Sunday in Long Beach, Calif. “It’s important to talk about how Barack Obama kicked off his political career in the guy’s living room.”
Palin’s attack coincided with reports by The Washington Post and New York Times that the McCain campaign was going to get personal by raising questions of Obama’s credibility and showing his ties to controversial figures like Ayers, convicted businessman Tony Rezko and possibly Obama’s former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
In Asheville, N.C., Obama noted his opponent’s tactic and likened the McCain campaign’s linkage of him to Ayers and others to “Swift boat” attacks of 2004.
In remarks to voters, Obama said the personal attacks against him from the GOP camp are “smears without substance. He declined to address his own campaign’s latest gambit of calling McCain “erratic” and “dishonest.”

I think it’s just strange that you’ve been linked to so many radicals, which all have been proven, not in depth, however, except Wright, and you’ve only been a politician for so few years. I could understand if Biden had this many radicals linked to him, or McCain, they’ve both been in office for over 20 years. If Obama’s really that naive about the people who surround him, I don’t want him as my president. I was going to vote for him, but this is scary.

To fifthperson:
I assume you go to a Christian college, because any other basic high school religions course will teach you that Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all worship the same God, just in different ways. They all acknowledge Jesus’ existence, and Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet, just not he Messiah. Nice try with the fear tactics though.

We forget that his full name is Barack Hussein Obama because the liberal media does not want us to remember that. Do you suppose if John McCain’s middle name was Hussein or Saddam, we would not be reminded of it everyday? The media would be calling him that at every opportunity. For those of you who are not world religion majors–and I am from college–a Muslim does not have Christian or Jewish beliefs. Combine Muslim and terrorist and you have Bin Laden.

One candidate clearly states he wants a bigger government to control more things. If you think the banks and Wall Street had bad financial management, are you ready to trust someone who signed off an a $3 million overhead projector?
