I think it also has to do with geography. You can fly a heli in your front yard but need a VERY large field to learn to fly.

That’s a great point, their are more helicopter toys than plane toy. Also he makes the correlation that the camping industry is a monster compared to the RC industry. But that negates other factors such as; a person getting into RC has a higher probability of belonging to a club, or getting knowledge from real people or the hobby store. Any dummy can go camping, and you don’t need to go learn camping from a person.
