dude honestly all i know is like 2. now im not saying that i am fuckin randy rhodes reincarnate, no far far from that lol, but honestly you dont need to know that many scales, it all depends on how you put them together. Shit Dimebag darrell only knew 3 scales lol all u need my friend is some practise and i guarantee ull kick mega ass

Slash, listen to the guy. Theory isn’t necessary, but even a basic understanding will greatly assist you. Not all scales have seven notes, that is just your atypical scale. The diminished scale, for example, has 8 notes.

Try to mute the lower string with your index while you play solos. Also mute the strings above the one you play as you move so you don’t get a lot of feedback.
guitaristwagner | March 29th, 2009 at 8:07 pm #
lol, i have 2 metal scales on my profile that might help.
GREIVINGDEATH | March 29th, 2009 at 8:07 pm #
damn i suck i can’t alternate pick multipul strings without sounding all muted and crappy and i only know one scale
xhauntedxonex | March 29th, 2009 at 8:07 pm #
all are picked. it starts the 4 note pattern on the B string and then on the high E.

Im new also, but Ill try to explain.
As you know, there are 7 notes in a scale (or 8 which is the octive). And the “standard” scale would be like C because none of the seven notes (1, 2, 3, etc) are neither sharp nor flat. In a G scale, the 7th is sharpened (In this case an F), so when you look at “1,flat2,flat3,4,5,flat6,flat7″ it is saying which notes are flattened. I hope I explained good, I also hope I’m correct… lol

or.. what?
marcuscelello | March 29th, 2009 at 8:07 pm #
well i got a 300 dollar danelectro. and my gain is up all the way
bapebapebape187 | March 29th, 2009 at 8:07 pm #
the whole hammer on might be your guitar. i had a really crappy guitar that would never stay in tune and sounded terrible. it should be really easy to hear a hammer on/ pull of on a nice guitar. or just turn the gain/ distortion way up

guitarsoloperfection | March 29th, 2009 at 8:07 pm #
these arent tips, these are riffs you thought were impressive and that you wanted people to see. This doesnt explain in any way how people could improve their picking or finger work, or any problems people may have.
