New media is the study and analysis of a prominently used form of technology at any given time. That said, at one point a book was new media, as was radio, as was television, etc, etc.
Unfortunately today new media is taken to prominently mean “digital technology.” Which really shows a lack of insight into the field.

New media is the marriage of mediated communications technologies with digital computers.
So technology that revolves digital computers is a relevant to New media.
